My Knight in Shining Armor

This entry is all about Eric. I am so grateful to have such a good husband. He works so hard for our family and doesn't get as much praise as he deserves. I'm so used to him doing so much for us all the time that I forget to tell him thanks like I should. For a couple months now Emma has been sick on and off. I've managed to stay healthy and not get whatever she's had, until now. It finally caught up with me. The past few days I haven't felt so well, and yesterday was the worst yet. I stayed home from church, and slept most of the day. Eric watched Emma, got me medicine, fixed me a really nice breakfast, and made me comfortable all day long. He doesn't get that much time off from work, so for him to spend the entire day working around the house taking care of Emma and me was a big sacrifice. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful husband. He's the best.

The Holidaze

Sometimes the holidays seem to blend together. There is so much to do, yet everyday seems the same. Every other day there is some kind of family function or get together, and meanwhile the list of gifts to purchase never seems to get shorter. At least when it's all said and done, the kids all seem to have had a good time, and most of the adults too. Maybe that's just because it is in fact over. I know there is still New Year's Eve to come, but that's just a big party - so bring it on.
After several attempts, this is the best picture we managed to get of the cousins to give Grandma and Papa. I was surprised with how good it was considering how "well" the kids were cooperating.

Emma is still figuring out what this Christmas thing is all about and who Santa is etc. But none of that mattered when she saw her new piano. She immediately wanted to serenade daddy as a thank you.

Quite possibly her favorite part of the day was when she made a couple of new friends up at Grandma's house. I don't think she's put them down since.

Growing Pains

I've been worried about Emma lately. Her equilibrium is off. She'll be standing in the living room, not really doing anything special, and suddenly be on the floor, having fallen down. And this doesn't just happen once or twice, but all day long - maybe 15 times a day. What ??? Did she wake up one morning super clumsy? So I was talking to Eric about it, and he said that she must be growing taller. I hadn't even thought about that, but I think he's right (don't tell him I said that). It makes perfect sense too. Of course it would take some adjusting if you're suddenly taller. Your balance would need some tweaking. And no laughing from you moms out there who are thinking 'duh' at my apparent lack of intuition and knowledge. I bet you were all as dumb as me once.... way back in the day.... maybe. :) Anyway, it puts a new spin for me on the phrase "growing pains" when you are actually falling down bumping yourself on corners and shelves and toys etc. Poor girl hasn't got a prayer of coming out of this one unscathed.

Drumroll please...

Here goes nothing. I've decided to start a blog. I never really saw the point to these, and even thought they were a waste of time. But after reading several for awhile and receiving many many requests to see more pictures of Emma, Eric and I decided that a blog would be the best format for this. I will try to keep up with it, and who knows? I may even like it. Actually I'm already excited. My disclaimer comes in the form of a quote from I Ching: "Before the beginning of great brilliance, there must be chaos. Before a brilliant person begins something great, they must look foolish in the crowd." This is definately an amateur attempt on my part, and it will probably take time for it to become anything special. I hope you will stick with me, and keep checking in for anything new. Please always feel free to leave comments. In case you are wondering about the name of the blog, I chose the word medley because my life feels like such a mixture of random things. That definately applies to my family. Another reason is that I love music - it has always had such a strong presence in my life. Sometimes as I reflect on my life it seems to have a soundtrack that plays in my head (no I'm not crazy - I don't hear voices in my head, just music). 'Medley' sums up my life as I move forward. I hope you'll stay tuned and accompany me on the journey.
