Funny Proof that the BCS is Messed Up

My brother forwarded this email to me and I thought I'd share it. I don't know who wrote it, but it's funny. If you're not aware of the BCS and the issue with the Utes not receiving the first place ranking this year this might not make sense to you.

Germany Declared Winner of WW II

After determining the national college football championship the BCS computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS declared Germany to be the winner of World War II.

"Germany put together an incredible number of victories beginning with the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland and continuing on into conference play with defeats of Poland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Their only losses came against the US and Russia; however considering their entire body of work—including an incredibly tough Strength of Schedule in the Eastern Front—our computers deemed them worthy of the #1 ranking."

Germany's loss to Russia seeems even less of a factor considering that Russia, after a rough season opening loss to Division III opponent Finland, went on to defeat such powerhouses as Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. Asked about the loss, Russia's head coach Stalin was quoted as saying: "Finland hardly counts. Home-field advantage is huge for those cold-weather teams."

Questioned about the #4 ranking of the United States the BCS commissioner stated "The US only had two major victories— Japan and Germany . The computer models, unlike humans, aren't influenced by head-to-head contests—they consider each contest to be only a single, equally-weighted event."

German Chancellor Adolph Hitler said "Yes, we lost to the US ; but we defeated #2 ranked France in only 6 weeks." Herr Hitler has been criticized for seeking dramatic victories to earn 'style points' to enhance Germany 's rankings. Hitler protested "Our contest with Poland was in doubt until the final day and the conditions in Norway were incredibly challenging and demanded the application of additional forces."

Japan was ranked #3 with victories including Manchuria, Borneo and the Philippines.

Other teams with legitimate bones to pick include the UK, Australia, and Canada.

One Canadian fan was quoted as saying: "I think the most disturbing part of this is Canada falling out of the rankings due to a lack of Atlantic activity. Obviously, John Swofford was
watching a different war."

The French ranking has also come under scrutiny. The BCS commented " France had a single loss against Germany and following a preseason #1 ranking they only fell to #2."

A Picture "Perfect" Day

Emma started laughing earlier today and said, "Mommy, I'm laughing at you." Lovely. Mind you, I was driving at the time, so she couldn't see me very well and I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. No, she was just laughing at me being me. I always new this day would come, but I didn't know it would come so soon. Quite a change from last week when she told Eric that I was her best friend. Maybe I'm her best friend because I can so easily make her laugh. Who knows.

Since Eric had today off work we decided to go to the zoo together. Emma brought her new camera and took pictures of all the animals. It was really funny watching her do this. She hasn't quite mastered standing perfectly still while taking the pictures so usually her shots are a little blurry, but they're still fun to look at.
For some reason Emma wanted to hold onto Eric's eyes while he carried her. I don't think he enjoyed that much.

Here is Emma taking a picture of a tiger statue...

...and here is how her picture turned out.
Here are just a few of the pictures she took. I love seeing things from her perspective.

Bad Grammar Anyone?

For some reason my family always harps on me for being some kind of grammar queen. I am, in fact, not a grammar queen. Shocking I know. I admit that I'm not perfect in this department. There are a couple things that people say that bug the crap out of me, but I've learned to live with it since I am one of only about 3 people who don't make this mistake. Don't worry, I make up for it elsewhere. I don't let (or try not to let) my family get away with it, but they do it even more just to bug me. Yes, you can feel the love we have for each other. What is this particular cardinal sin that most people commit? It's saying the word 'funner' rather than 'more fun'. Ouch. That hurt just writing it. For some reason this has stuck with me from my high school days. I don't remember most things any of my teachers told me, but this I do. And it bugs me. Now, I don't judge people who use it, because that would be judging EVERYONE, and would become tiresome and rather monotonous.

There are a few things people say that I do wonder about though. Have you ever heard someone say 'squozen'? Uch! You know the icky feeling you get and the spasms that follow when you kill a spider or something? Well, that just happened to me as I typed that word. But seriously, why do people think that is a word? How did that get started? But I digress from the real reason for this post.

Recently I've noticed that there is a grammatical error that I seem to make all the time. I don't know why I'm only noticing it now, but it's bothering me so so much. The word 'at' finds itself at the end of my sentences way more than it should (which is never), and I catch myself doing it, and want to stop! I just can't seem to see it coming until after it's slipped out there. Like I said before, I'm sure there are many many other similar mistakes that I frequently make (and I'm not asking for them to be pointed out by the way), but this one is now my focal point. So my apologies if you hear me use this word incorrectly. Just know that I am working on it.

New Meds for Women

Here's some Wednesday humor for you. Eric found this the other day and showed me. I got a good laugh out of it, but I should warn you there is some colorful language in it, so if you are sensitive, then maybe skip it. Otherwise, click here.
