Why is it that no matter which checkout line I get in, it's always the slowest? I really don't understand how this can be, but it is most definately true. Today I was at the store and was having a good time. Emma was being wonderful, she even got a free icecream cone. We went and got in line, and sure enough it ended up being by far the slowest. Included in the delays for the man ahead of me were unknown prices, most of his groceries apparently not scanning correctly, and he wrote a check (seriously!? I didn't know people still wrote checks - at least not in person at a store, maybe for bills in the mail or something) and was then very slow at getting his ID out for the checker to see. All I can say is I'm glad I wasn't in a terrible hurry.

We still use checks at the grocery store...Don't want to charge everything!
I didn't mean credit cards. But how about a visa debit card? It the same as using a check, but without all the hassle. And you can take the receipt right home and enter it into your checkbook. No fuss, no muss.
I've been in that kind of line before too. but I can't complain much since I have also been the cause of that type of line. I once found myself in the "15 item or less lane" with far more than 15 items. I didn't notice my mistake until it was my turn at the front, and my items were all up on the conveyor belt thing. Luckily I had a very patient and forgiving woman in line behind me. She assured me she was in no hurry to get back home to her teenagers. And the next time I was in line behind someone in the same situation, I was much more patient than I otherwise would have been.
Sometimes it just seems to rub me the wrong way - and that's usually when I'm in a huge hurry. Lucky for me Emma is almost never an issue (she's so well behaved), so I don't usually mind because of her needing to hurry. Luckily this time, like I said, I wasn't in a huge hurry, but it still always kind of annoys me, even if I am able to be more patient. I guess it's something I need to work on. =)
